Baring your soul is never easy. The Kickasspirational Podcast interview with David Vanderveen is probably one of the deepest interviews we’ve done—it’s about who we are and how our journey began.

The struggle is what makes the journey valuable, what builds real character and creates our best selves. We had a rough start individually, and we had to figure out how to work together if we wanted to help others and ourselves. We weren’t the perfect couple. We still aren’t. Frankly, there are no perfect couples, because there are no perfect people. But we learned that despite our flaws, we could grow together, and we make a good team.

This interview is all about how our commitment to each other and shared goals helped us build a marriage and a business. First we committed to each other. Second, we burned the lifeboats. Third, we stopped trying to escape our mutual problems and focused on how we work together.

In this interview, we talk in depth about our relationship—how to jettison our past baggage so we could travel a path together.

We’re telling our story, because we’ve met a lot of other couples going through the same sorts of things. It’s humbling for us to show our warts—a break-up, dealing with ADD, going backwards in our business and relationship—but we’ve had a lot of people thank us for exposing so much so that they don’t feel so alone in their own pain and problems.
